Research Question: How does sex influence leadership in the media from 1950 – 2014 as evidenced in the Disney films Frozen and Cinderella?
Method: We compared 1950s Cinderella and 2014 Frozen in order to identify differences in leadership styles within small groups. Using the structurual approach, we studied character behaviors in order to identify leaders that emerged in each group.
Significance: Both films played a essential roles in American culture in the time in which they were released, and were some of the highest grossing films in the years they came out.
Results: Our research identified task-oriented leaders and social emotional leaders based on behaviors within each group.
